The fundamental directions of the ERGO Hestia Group’s climate and environmental activities are included in the ERGO Hestia Group Sustainability Strategy and in the ERGO Hestia Group Environmental Policy.
Management of environmental issues is the direct responsibility of the company’s Management Board. By adopting the Environmental Policy in 2019, it undertook to oversee the implementation of the declarations contained in the document. At the same time, it reaffirmed the Group’s actions and commitments as set out in the Sustainability Strategy to mitigate the effects of climate change and support the transition towards climate neutrality.
In 2021, the Management Board adopted a policy and guidelines for responsible investment (Responsible Investment Guidelines). The document sets out the investment principles, limits, and ESG factors considered in the Group’s investment process.
The Management Board, acting within its powers, decides on the implementation of pro-environmental measures in three areas at the company: Insurance Portfolio, Investments and Own Business. The directions of the measures taken as defined in the objectives, policy and strategy are reviewed at meetings of the Company’s Supervisory Board.
All employees and associates of the Group are required to comply with and implement the Environmental Policy. In order to ensure the smooth functioning of the environmental management system, an ERGO Hestia Environmental Management Team has been established at ERGO Hestia, headed by the Sustainability Director reporting directly to the Management Board Member for Sales and Technology.
In 2021, we officially received the EMAS certificate (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) awarded by the General Director of Environmental Protection. It confirms that we meet the highest environmental standards and conduct our business in accordance with the idea of sustainable development. We are the first insurer in Poland and the fourth non-life insurer in Europe to be entered in the register of EMAS organisations.
The certificate covers all our activities including insurance and reinsurance services for individual and corporate clients and activities related to the preparation of an insurance offer as well as the conclusion and handling of an insurance contract. EMAS also covers our activities carried out in the office buildings in Sopot and Gdańsk, the entire ERGO Hestia vehicle fleet and selected elements of our supply chain.
We want to lead the transition of the insurance value chain by:
