EMAS certification requires organisations to publish information on their environmental impacts. The format and scope of the data for the core metrics are strictly defined. We present our environmental management performance in accordance with EMAS requirements. We disclose data for the last three years when available.
In order to monitor the environmental impact of our operations, the Group’s Management Board, managers, project managers and members of the environmental management teams receive CO2 data including all three scopes: Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3.
2019 | 2020 | 2021 | change% 2020/2019 | change% 2021/2019 | |

Metric reporting methodology:
We are consistently working to increase energy efficiency. In addition to raising employee awareness, our efforts in this area include the right choice of equipment as well as energy efficiency and conservation measures and solutions.
97.10% of the electricity purchased by ERGO Hestia in 2021 comes from renewable sources. Despite the use of renewable energy, we consider the broader impact of the energy sector on air pollution and depletion of natural resources as an impact related to energy consumption.
41% of our car fleet is made up of hybrid cars (a 10% improvement vs. 2020) and only less than 1% are diesel cars. The replacement of the fleet is reducing CO2 emissions per km. Further optimisation of the company fleet will be a priority in the coming years.
2% decrease in electricity consumption. Despite the increase in employment, we were still partially working remotely.
47% decrease in natural gas consumption. Reason: limited use of the staff canteen. Natural gas is only used for the preparation of meals in the canteen located in the Marina 1 building.
20% increase in heat consumption. Possible influence of many factors, including weather conditions, insolation and penetration of solar energy into rooms, temperature settings inside the building.
59% drop in office paper consumption. Although more people have returned to working in buildings in the course of 2021, we have become accustomed to using paper more sparingly.
20% decrease in print paper consumption. Positive developments include fewer print runs ordered by intermediaries.
14% decrease in business travel by car (calculated in km). The result was influenced by a significant decrease in business trips recorded in Q1 and Q2 2021. From July 2021 onwards, there was a gradual increase in the number of trips and mileage.
62% decrease in business travel by train. Business travel by means of transport other than cars has been severely restricted due to the threats posed by the pandemic.
Water consumption and the generation of domestic wastewater are associated with a large number of employees. We strive to optimise water consumption while maintaining appropriate levels of cleanliness, hygiene and comfort.
Since 2019, only tap water is consumed in our buildings located in Gdańsk and Sopot. The condition of the water in the taps is tested and all employees are equipped with reusable bottles. In 2021, we initiated the installation of taps with automatic sensors to save water. This effort will continue in 2022.
A change in the municipal waste mix with an increase in the proportion of waste fit for recycling at the expense of a reduction in residual waste may indicate an increase in staff awareness of waste segregation.
In 2021, we recorded no penalties or non-financial sanctions for non-compliance with environmental legislation.
